Bite the bullet

從前戰場上的傷兵接受手術時，因為沒有麻醉藥，所以醫生會拿一粒軟鉛子彈給他咬著，以分散對手術的注意力。所以to bite the bullet有“咬著牙關忍受痛苦”、“勇敢處理棘手事情”的意思，例如：
1. To keep its head above water, the company will have to bite the bullet and lay off one-third of its staff.
2. I hate going to the dentist, but I suppose I'll just have to bite the bullet.
