最近的管理論壇談及修己治人，所謂格物、致知、誠意、正心、修身、齊家、治國、平天下，其實是一個人由內(修己)的管理，到向外(治人)的管理。
現代的管理學，有所謂人心管理，概括如下:

禁豬?

豬年即將來臨，中央電視台收到上級的命令，不得播出與「豬」有關的廣告，以免散居在中國各地約860萬信奉伊斯蘭教的回民反感，從而維護民族之間的和諧。禁令發出後，雀巢、可口可樂等公司也要臨時抽起正準備出街的賀歲廣告。原來，回教信徒討厭豬，在日常生活中甚至根本不提和豬有關的東西，但是，為了這個原因而禁播與豬有關的廣告，是否有點兒誇張?

打針發燒

昨天帶兒子到周醫生診所打預防針，醫生說回家後有可能會發燒，昨晚兒子果然有點微熱，幸好體溫維持在100度以下，所以不用吃退燒葯。

養兒一百歲，長憂九十九。

123這個數字對我來說，有特別意義，因為是老婆的生日大日子。
雖然她今天仍要上班，但晚上我們照常慶祝，到了位於元朗的浪漫滿屋吃晚餐，那裡的地方很大，佈置亦很有心思，是情侶拍拖的好去處。

下屬做得好，應該給予讚賞，拍拍背。英語中有句話非常傳神 : a pat on the back 或 pat somebody on the back

Example:
I got a pat on the back from my boss = I was praised by my boss

造蛋糕

今天我替老婆預祝生日，一起去學造蛋糕，由原材料造起，用了大約三小時，終於製成了美味的伯爵橘子茶慕士蛋糕，我和老婆都好開心呀！

老婆上班了

Have faith in people

Believing in someone makes you an influencer and can enable that person to attain greatness. Why? Here are some facts about faith in people:

1. Most people don't have faith in themselves.
2. Most people don't have someone who has faith in them.
3. Most people can tell when someone has faith in them.
4. Most people will do anything to live up to your faith in them.

職權、影響力與權力

職權(Authority)是指由組織所合法授予的權力。
影響力 (Influence)是指一個人可以激發其他人採取某些行動的能力。
權力 (Power)權力的基礎便是影響力。當一個人有了影響力，他便擁有權力。

chance

cripple

cripple (verb)

Vice-Chancellor

Strictly speaking, a Vice-Chancellor of a university is only the deputy to the Chancellor, but the Chancellor is usually a prominent public figure who acts as a ceremonial figurehead only, while the Vice-Chancellor acts as the day-to-day chief executive. For example, in HKU, the Chancellor (校監) is CE Donald Tsang and the Vice-Chancellor (校長) is Tsui Lap-Chee.

今晚到紅館看勁歌金曲，是我首次到現場看此節目，和看電視機最大的分別，就是可以看見歌手們在廣告時間於台上走來走去，很有趣！

商標名變成普通用字

有些品牌名稱，由於市場佔有率很大或本身是先發品牌，該品牌便成為同類型產品的通用名稱。例如:
Aspirin: 止痛藥
Jacuzzi: 按摩浴缸
Kleenex: 面紙
Xerox: 影印
zipper: 拉鏈

Tamper with

tamper with sth (phrasal verb)
to touch or make changes to something which you should not, usually without enough knowledge of how it works or when you are trying to damage it

Example:

It was not easy to find a suitable site that was safe, secure and not tampered with by animals and birds.

The retail director of ExxonMobil ruled out the possibility the station contractor had tampered with the dispenser to make money.

Forecasting

My colleague attended a training and shared what he learned about weather forecasting with us. Some inspiring points are summarized as below:

1. Forecasters should continuously perform a careful diagnosis, looking for low-probability, but high impact possibility events. An action plan is always in mind to prepare for reacting quickly and properly when necessary.

2. Always look at all levels of the sounding. CAPE was strongly suggested as a reference of the atmospheric instability. It used the calculation of a large vertical extent of the atmosphere rather than other convective indices using a certain levels in calculation.

3. Any NWP forecast was just an opinion. It was not an opinion to represent all lives and all seeing. In encountering diversity of the model outputs, an "ensemble consensus" is always the most likely outcome.

假期的最後一天

終於來到陪產假期的最後一天了，雖然我和老婆笑說什麼也像沒有做過，其實能這麼多天從早到晚陪伴在老婆的左右，已是我最大的收穫了。

BBC英語

最近發現了一個BBC為中國人而設的英語學習網頁，非常有用，日後一定要多瀏覽。

與Uncle及Auntie見面

今天帶BB和阿強、Amy、Rayman和Ricky見面，這種感覺對我來說頗特別，這是因為以前大家在大學時代常常「柴娃娃」一起玩，現在我已為人父，身份好像有點不同。對大家來說，我們這組人多了一位關係非常密切的新成員，也很值得大家高興。

洗白白

今日在老婆的指導下，幫BB洗白白，可能他已經熟了水性，所以整個過程很合作。我現在已懂得餵奶、換片及沖涼，老婆笑說我可以開托兒所了!

勇敢的你

豆豆，你真的很勇敢，今天周醫生幫你打預防針，你只喊了十數秒便再乖下來。雖然周醫生替你量度高度時有點手忙腳亂，但其實他也是一個很細心的醫生。

何謂完美

Deadline

I learned a lesson that whenever I write an email to request somebody to do something, even if the deadline is embedded in the threaded emails, the date should be mentioned again in the covering email. This is to prevent overlooking by the email recipient.

禁煙的日子

昨日是禁煙條例實施首日，食肆生意沒不跌反升，原因有二:
1. 食肆少了烏煙瘴氣，吸引了一批不吸煙或怕聞煙臭味的市民。
2. 愛抽煙的顧客以往會在用餐後抽一兩支煙才離開，但現在他們會快些結賬到室外抽煙，這樣反而能騰出座位給其他顧客，加快人流。
